About Aizhou

Aizhou (I-JO) Liu is a Chinese-born, NYC-based multi-genre composer who specializes in writing original songs for picture. She composes music fused between traditional Chinese and modern Western culture and sings in both English and Mandarin. She is known for “composing fun”. Aizhou is the first and twice the recipient of Genelec x AES Audio Pioneering Award for Outstanding Women. She is constantly looking for new collaborators in the areas of film/TV, video games, and virtual reality.

Aizhou’s passion for film and storytelling has led her to compose for National Geographic, for whom she has written for the 2022 SharkFest Special, Game of Sharks, the How We Explore podcast, and theme music for the documentary TV series Megastructures. Her original song Amplify Your Voice, an anthem celebrating Chinese culture, was featured in Disney’s new Chip ‘N Dale series. She has co-written music for the acclaimed mobile game Arknights with over 3 million players worldwide.

Trained in classical and concert music, Aizhou is also an orchestrator. Her most recent project, Shortcomings, directed by Randall Park, premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2023 and was released in theaters in the U.S. through Sony Classics.

Aizhou is an alumna of Berklee College of Music (Bachelor’s) and of New York University (Master’s). Aizhou is an advocate for women and POC in entertainment. She is the only composer selected for BAFTA’s Newcomers Development Program. She is a proud member of the Alliance of Women Film Composers (AWFC), Composers Diversity Collective (CDC), and Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc).
